Got five pens?

If you have five pens you like to carry around then a five pen pouch is what you need. My pouches have wide enough slots for your average to wider pen and can fit pens up to 15 cm tall. For those with slimmer pens I can adjust the number of slots in your pen pouch. In this instance it was turning a four pen pouch into a five. The slots went from 3.5 cm to just shy of 2.5 cm which easily holds a 1.2 cm wide pen. This one was made for Pilot pens and in the picture it has some of my Conway Stewart ...

A Breyde for your pens

Today I've added a new colour/pattern to the pen roll selection: the Breyde. A beautiful cotton fabric lined with Olive velvet and extra padding front and back for the safety of your pens. You can roll or fold and secure with the tie or fold down the protective flaps and roll it up so you can use it as a standing pen caddy.  Check it out today!...

Beautiful Pastels

Today I completed sewing, photography and setting up two lovely new pen rolls: the Tokyo and the Liana. The Tokyo is a beautiful mauve/cream and dark brown lined with charcoal velvet. It has extra layers of padding both front and back to protect and nestle your pens. The fabric pattern is Japanese inspired and is 100% cotton from the USA. Check it out today!...

NEW Heron Pen Pouches

I spied this fabric while doing a bit of online shopping therapy during the lockdown and it arrived earlier this week. It's really thick sturdy fabric and I love the teal colouring. Making it into pouches was a little challenging - my sewing needle is knackered and turning the pouches in the right way through a small gap was more than a little frustrating - but the end result is a fabulous looking pen pouch that will keep your pens safe and sound. This one will only be available as 2, 3 or 4 pen...

NEW Monarch Pen Roll

I've been getting round to this one for a long time and it's finally finished! The Monarch pen roll is now available in standard 6, 8 or 10 pen sizes. The yellow velvet is sure to brighten up your day. Like all the other pen rolls, these will be made to order. ...

Hello 2020!

I have gone a bit nuts lately on buying new (and old) pens - in 2019 I bought 24 pens, which is a new record for me, and so far this year I've bought 12 and we're not even a full month in yet. Oh dear, I sense a bit of a trend here! I've bought a lot of vintage pens of late (chiefly Conway Stewarts) to complete a couple of pen sets I'd started, and some that came in cheaper 'pen lots' which I'm not keeping but bought the lot because I liked the look of a couple of the pens. Today I happened upon...

I'm confused, are you?

When I buy stuff online (and it's usually pens) nine times out of ten I pay in US$, though occasionally British pounds if I'm buying vintage pens from the UK. I've done it so often that when I see a price online I assume it's a US$ price and I'm sure some of you do too. In New Zealand we share the same dollar sign with the United States, so you can understand why people might assume everything on a New Zealand business website is also in US$. I've had a few people ask me if my prices are US$ and...

Persia Pen Roll and a New Sailor

The Persia pen roll is finally here with its sturdy red/navy fabric outer and luscious navy velvet interior. This one took me a while to get round to sewing and had been sitting waiting on the workbench for a number of weeks while I worked on other projects. I'm glad I finally finished it though as it's really beautiful and looks even better with my pens in it. I chose my Sailor pens for its photo shoot and I think they do it justice. Speaking of which, my newest Sailor arrived last we...

New Pen Pouch for Short/Small Pens

I finally got round to getting some short pens - four lovely looking Kaweco pens: grey, red, fox and macchiato. They are so little with teeny tiny nibs - I really like them. I made a short pen pouch for them from the Luna fabric with blue velvet lining. I had made one in Leaf with citrus velvet lining some time ago but at that time didn't have the pens to show it off. There are plenty of you out there who use shorter pens and rely on having a clip attached to them to keep them in a reg...

Christmas is coming!

It's getting to that time of year when we are thinking about what to get our loved ones (and ourselves) for Christmas. I'm thinking of a nice Pelikan or Sailor for myself...and I haven't really got any further than that! This year though my family are making gifts so I'll have to get my thinking cap on as most of my family are not pen enthusiasts. If you're thinking about what to get for Christmas try a pen pouch or two, a pen pillow or roll for yourself or those pen enthusiasts in your life. Ju...

Fun at Pelikan Hubs

This was my third Pelikan Hub and we were lucky to just meet the threshold for a hub with eight people registered. Our little group met in Christchurch and had a great time catching up, showing our latest pens and some old favs, and trying out inks and paper. I filled a bunch of pens with different coloured inks (matched to the pen colours of course) for people to try along with some notebooks and pouches. Got the snacks (donuts, chocolate slice and biccies, cupcakes, muffins) and drinks laid ou...

Fab New Colours!

Today I've added two new colours to the pen pouch range. The first is Arrowhead - a beautiful burgundy colour paired with Cabernet velvet. It looks fantastic with my Sailor Supernova pen.The second new colour is Citron - a mustard yellow fabric with cream fleck paired with mustard velvet for a lavish golden look. I photographed it with my ivory Sailor and some black and navy blue pens from my collection.I can make them for two, three or four pens and I'm tempted to make an Arrowhead pen roll - y...

Pen Rolls are here!

Pen rolls for 6, 8 and 10 pens are now available With an open top you can fold over both top edges and loosely roll and tie to make a standing pen caddy. When rolled normally and secured your pens won't fall out and there's no fear of them touching - your pens will be safe and secure wherever you take them. I will be making the pen rolls out of some existing fabrics (like the Veela, which you can buy now) and these will be added to the shop on an ongoing basis. For launch day, I have includ...

Newish Products

Better late than never - I have been a bit remiss of late and need to make up for it now. I've recently released Hurlestone pen kimonos (they've been on the site for just over a week now) which are a nice and reasonably priced addition to the Hurlestone family of products. I was originally going to make them from poly satin fabric only but found some really nice cottons to use as well. The cotton is easier to sew and behaves better than the satin in the production process. They have some thin wa...

It's time for a Present!

I couldn't wait. After managing to get the photos in order and into the Shop, I had to make this one live. The Present pen pouch is really gorgeous. The fabric has sparkly thread through it and I think it would make a great gift for that someone special in your life. Late last year I managed to get hold of a small amount of this fabric for pen pouches so I'm making them to order for 1, 2, 3, or 4 pen pouches until the fabric runs out. The Present is not just for Christmas - how about birthd...

New Pouch and New Pillow Colour

This week I've been busy sewing custom items for customers and putting up a couple of new products. I've added a Three Pen Pouch into the mix that has pen slots measuring 1 1/4 inches in width - plenty of room for those larger pens. It's the same price as the Two Pen Pouch and only a tiny bit wider.  If you have taller pens I can always customise the pouch (or pillows) for you to fit pens taller than 6 inches.  Pretty soon I will be adding in a compact pen roll for four, six, or e...

New Pen Day!

So exciting when you get a new pen in the mail - in this case I missed the courier so had to wait a whole extra day before going to the post office to pick it up. Oh, the suspense! This pen is a bit of a diversion from my usual Sailor or Lamy purchases. It's an Opus 88 in beige. My first pen of this type so can't wait to ink it up. I got a medium nib for this one so will be interesting to see how it goes.  The day after I got it it was cloudy which means 'photo time' - my new pen has had it...

Supernova New Pen Day!

The latest edition to my small but growing Sailor fountain pen collection arrived in the mail today. It's the fabulously sparkly Supernova. Its beautiful red sparklyness will be appearing along with its sidekick, Purple Cosmos, in some pouch and pillow photos soon. In the meantime, the Supernova has had its first photoshoot as I opened it this morning. These photos were taken with my phone in not so good light - I'll take some better ones soon. Enjoy :-) ! #hurlestonenz...

New babies

I was lucky to have some new babies turn up in the mail this week. My new Lamy pastels - Mint Glaze, Powder Rose and Blue Macaron. I couldn't wait to take photos of them with various pen pouches. Fortunately for me the weather was cloudy so the light was just right for photos. It was also fortunate that I had made a three slot pen pouch just for them - a customised two pen pouch with less width in the slots but still big enough to put a few Lamys in there....

Petrol never looked so good!

Introducing the Burlington - available now in 1, 2, and 4 pen pouch sizes only on the website.  Burlington is made from petrol-coloured upholstery fabric and lined with Teal velvet to nestle and protect your pens. You can easily clip your pens to the Burlington and it has a back pocket for your stuff on the 2 and 4 pen pouches.  I really like this colour and love how it looks with my dark Lamys in it - the Petrol and the Black. If you're a Lamy Petrol fan then this is the pouch for you...

The Monarch has landed

It's new pen pouch day today. The Monarch is the latest colour to join the range of 1, 2 and 4 pen pouches, so I think I have covered all the bases here with this one. It's a beautiful deep purple with specks of yellow on the outside and a delightful ray of sunshine yellow on the inside. I've lined it with soft Citrus velvet so your pens will sleep safely inside wherever you go.I have also made the Mocha and Carson 4 pen pouches which are also available in the 1 pen pouch size (you just nee...

How about some light?

Today I've added the Pearl and Wheatstone pen pouches into the range. These two are lighter coloured pouches - the Pearl is cream/grey and the Wheatstone is well, wheat coloured. They are both lined with cream velvety goodness and look fantastic with pens in them.  Won't they get grubby? If they do you can clean them by dabbing with a damp cloth and mild detergent just like you would with other upholstery fabrics. These pouches, like all the others in the range, will protect your pens for a...

The single pen pouch is now available!

I've been busy making pouches all week. The first to be released is the new Single pen pouch. This was originally a request for a custom pouch but I really liked it so I decided to add it to the range. Now Hurlestone pen pouches come in Single, 2 pen and 4 pen sizes.  I have photographed the Single pouch in Georgie fabric but you can click on the list and select it in a range of other colours. This week it's the feature pouch, so go ahead and get one for your collection. @hurlestonenz...
